On Friday evening, the Aquinas College community was treated to a sublime evening of music that lifted spirits and stirred the soul with a beautiful collaboration between our Schola Cantorum and the renowned Australian Baroque.
A thoughtfully curated program of sacred and classical works included compositions by Handel, Byrd, Bach, Duruflé, Mozart, Franck, Duburle and more, with many of the pieces complemented by the Orchestra’s rich sounds that highlighted the choir’s stunning vocals and versatile arrangements.
Director of the Schola, Mr Hugh Lydon, provided entertaining introductions and pertinent information that deepened the audience’s appreciation of the music.
The Schola Cantorum brings together more than 60 students from Years 4 to 12 to produce world-class choral music that enhances our sacred celebrations. The special evening provided a wonderful opportunity for members of the extended community to experience the extraordinary talent, discipline and spiritual richness of the Schola, and to witness firsthand the power of music to elevate, inspire and bring people together in faith and hope.
The event was a testament to the College’s commitment to the arts as a vital part of an Edmund Rice education, nurturing the whole person and seeking excellence in all pursuits.
One of the many highlights of the evening was a performance from the Schola’s Year 12 choristers. Now in their final year of the choir, the young men balance their ensemble responsibilities with College leadership, academic and sporting activities, and are excellent role models for all Aquinians.
Following the concert, the audience made their way to the Veritas Centre for the official launch of the Aquinas College Foundation’s latest fundraising campaign, Bravo! The evening marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the College’s vision for a world-class Performing Arts building that will feature state-of-the-art acoustics and spaces designed to support the educational, cultural and communal life of Aquinas for generations to come.
It was an evening of harmony – in music, in purpose, and in shared hope for the future of the arts at Aquinas College.
