The annual ‘Good night In’ Winter Sleepout occurred from Friday 11th to Saturday 12th August. This was a timely event to mark the end of Homelessness Week. A hundred students from Year 8 and 9 signed up for the experience of ‘sleeping rough’ across five sleeping zones on campus, including some very brave boys who slept outside the boat shed! Prior to the sleepout, boys used their sponsorship forms to raise money for homeless services provided by the Vinnies and Salvation Army. They raised a massive total of nearly $12,000.

There are many people to thank for making this night a safe and rewarding experience for the boys. Peter Vernon and Liam Swainson from the Salvation Army who presented the ABCD of Homelessness; Hannah Taylor who presented the Vinnies’ work across all aspects of homelessness in Perth and Rod and Monica also from the Salvos Doorways Team who prepared and delivered our dinner of pies, sandwiches and fruit. We are also very thankful to Jack Zaninovich and members of the Service Council, the many senior students who helped during the event including those who slept rough while supervising their respective zones. Lastly there were many staff who helped for various parts of the evening – Paul Rich, Natalie Bates, Jacylyn Pedersen, John Speechley, Stephen Spiteri, James Brown, Brian Tonkin, Kristian Morisey and Marco Santalucia. We are very grateful for their time and efforts, especially those who just finished an Encounter Retreat or the Year 7 Dance and those who were involved in Saturday morning events.
